Autumn Bojnice

What to do in Bojnice? This question is probably asked by everyone who has seen Bojnice Castle and the Zoological Garden. Nowadays, however, most of us are looking for safe outdoor attraction options where lots of people don’t congregate at once.

During October, the town of Bojnice starts to talk about an off-season, when the number of tourists is much lower than in summer. However, this particular season has a unique atmosphere that could be considered a reason to travel right now.

You may have visited Bojnice Castle many times and you say to yourself, why now? If you don’t like guided tours, be the master of your time and visit the castle on these days (during the ongoing pandemic and strict measures) when it is accessible without a group and guided tour.

TheBojnice Zoo may be the oldest in Slovakia, but that doesn’t mean it looks like one.

The most topical issue is the construction of a new pavilion for elephants. The main objective of the construction is to provide suitable qualitatively and quantitatively satisfactory breeding facilities for the animals. It’s definitely better to plan a walk in the zoo in autumn than in the hot summer months. More chances that the pets will also want to spend time outdoors, in the fresh air.

If you want to enjoy your time in nature, take a walk along the yellow hiking trail through the Bojnice Calvary. You can also get to a small lookout, which is free of charge for visitors thanks to the falconers. We wrote more about this trail here.

A few meters from our hotel towards the square there is a great ice cream parlour Mandolína, where you can enjoy great homemade ice cream scooped with a scoop. Turn down towards Prievidza and the arrows will lead you to the Museum of Prehistory or the sand sculptures.

What has been added to Bojnice attractions this year?

The sand sculptures exhibition had its premiere this year 2020 in Bojnice and you can come and see it until the end of October. The exhibition of sand sculptures can be found at the playground under the Bojnice Rectory. The sculptures were created by Slovak artists, whose work is a stamp especially from the Tatra Ice Dome on Hrebienok. There are 9 castles and 3 fairy-tale creatures waiting for you, made of 130 tons of sand.

This year Bojnice attractions were added to the
Bencovje grunt
– a world that in many places has long since ended and disappeared forever. The owners strive to preserve and present traditional folk products, made of clay, wood, metal, … which reflect the skill and sense of beauty of the old craftsmen. You can sign up for pottery painting – made directly on Bencovje grunt, or wine tasting in the 400-year-old cellar. Bencovje grunt is located in an alley opposite Belassi Hotel & Restauant.

Stay at the Belassi Hotel & Restaurant in the historic centre of Bojnice, park your car in the private underground garage and you can get everywhere within a few minutes on foot. Choose one of our stay packages that include accommodation, half board, parking and a bottle of sparkling wine in your room.
